THE MUSIC
I think that music played at an extreme – say too quiet or too loud – will turn people off, especially in a dining venue. Also inappropriate music such as heavy metal just wouldn’t ‘feel right’. People will leave if they don’t feel good and music plays a big part in comfort levels for diners (and drinkers).
THE BUSINESS
Look at your customers and the reasons they are in your outlet – celebrating? Dining? Groups? Romantic tables for two? etc and choose music which you think will suit both the time of day and the type of guests. The night of the week could also play a part – do you get a lot of drinkers in the bar on a Friday? Crank up the beats, maybe play some ‘classics’ which will appeal to the age group and they will stay longer, and buy more drinks! Don’t drive them away with boring music! Also never let the staff choose the music as they are likely to just play something they personally like (over and over again!)
